Choosing a health insurance policy that covers what you need can be a difficult task, but it doesn’t have to be. With the Affordable Care Act in place, health insurance requirements have changed, so it’s vital to ensure your plan meets those needs. At Taylor, Lord & Hughes, Inc., we can help.
Things to Consider
When choosing a plan, make sure to consider how the plan will pay to cover your expenses. You’ll also want to take a look at how much out of pocket you’ll owe. Check to see what your deductible is each year, as this is the amount you’ll have to pay out of pocket before your insurance will start paying.
It’s important to note that some insurance plans will require you to pay the deductible before they cover your office visits while other plans may require a co-payment for office visits. These co-pays won’t count towards your deductible.
Make sure to check each plan for co-pays, so that you will know how much you’ll be required to pay upfront before you see a doctor.
Another thing to consider is the plan’s out-of-pocket maximum. Once you reach that maximum amount, your insurance will cover everything but your co-pays.
Before you choose an insurance plan, do the math. See how much you’ll pay for each plan in a worst-case scenario. If you are in poor health, you’ll want to choose the plan that covers what you need, and will cost the least. If your health is stable, you may be able to select a coverage that offers the lowest premiums available.
If you’re unsure of the best route, contact us. We’ll go over your options with you, helping you choose the right health insurance plan for you, and one that meets all of the Michigan state requirements.
